A gastronomic concept on minimum space
Kaiserstreet is the main shopping street downtown Karlsruhe and ranks first with regard to number of people passing by. Best preconditions for the new K&U outlet that opened up on November 9, 2009. In line with the specific location the focus was put on gastronomy and the offer contains bread and pastries but also a rich choice of soups, snacks and freshly prepared pizza ? on two sides along the street and with a minimum of space required.
These complicated site facts meant a specific challenge to the AICHINGER architects: the long and stretched layout of the consumption zone are not considered to be best; however the square meters available could be optimised through an intelligent re-organisation of delivery process and customer access.
The conception of the façade in itself is the real eye-catcher of the landmarked building: The counter front becomes part of the façade. In the evening it is closed by an electronic glass lock ending up shortly below the glass top. Thus the counter line does not have its own front panel.
AICHINGER was in charge of coordinating all crafts in this project; we-shoplight experts were responsible for the lighting concept. Mr. Helmut Behringer, marketing manager of K&U, was totally satisfied with the project realisation done by the AICHINGER Buchenbach office and consultant Dietmar Schmidtlein: "With this project AICHINGER demonstrated its capability to complete complex tasks in an outstanding way proofing impressively its concept and product strengths despite complicated site conditions."
