Café Spesso, Hanover
Conceiving a gastronomical mix with Mediterranean touch.
Georgios Ignatidis comes from a famous family of gastronomes and knows very well the scene with regard to restaurants and cafés of Hanover. He developed the café Spesso - the name being a shortened allusion to the Italian word Expresso - to set new accents with this trendy gastronomical mix.
From the very first moment the Spesso was conceived as a combination of coffee-bar, lounge and delicatessen shop. The assortment and ambiance obeyed a clear philosophy: Presenting themselves Mediterranean style with a strong focus on the authentic Italian gourmet culture.
With this concept Georgios Ignatidis met AICHINGER representative Erich Sobottka for the first time. Together they drove the project further. The first task was to find an adequate location in a highly frequented area and at payable conditions. The best choice was a quarter location at a traffic junction. In a next step the spaces needed to be restructured. Thus the outer wall was broken through and two new doors were placed in order to enhance light exposure and optimise servicing in the outside area.
Then the architects worked on the conceptualisation of the interior zone and exterior zone with approximately 60 seats. A real eye-catcher became the huge, central gastronomical counter in order to operate a joint bar, delicatessen and pastry business. Core is a built-in portafilter coffee machine. Warm colours as coffee, palm trees and original Italian specialities stand for a Mediterranean flair.
The gastronomical mix-concept worked out well. Even so not situated in the heart of the city the Spesso enjoys lots of people from early morning to closing time at 10 pm. And the success gives good spirits. Spesso 2 is going to be planned - together with AICHINGER again.
